Rheos x SC Aquarium Green Tortoise Launch
Rheos Nautical Eyewear Launches New Colorway in Partnership with South Carolina Aquarium; Sales to Benefit Sea Turtle Care Center
Charleston-based sunglass brand creates turtle-inspired frames with 20 percent of sales benefiting the Sea Turtle Care Center
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Local floating sunglass brand Rheos Nautical Eyewear just launched a new collection of green tortoise frames, designed to celebrate the iconic sea turtle shell, in partnership with the South Carolina Aquarium. Twenty percent of sales will go directly to the aquarium’s Sea Turtle Care Center™.
Available in both gunmetal gray and marine lenses, this collection of shades allows locals and philanthropic customers to purchase high quality sunglasses while they support vital conservation efforts that impact South Carolina and beyond.
“To be able to support our local nonprofit partner in such a creative and collaborative way is a dream come true for us,” said Becca Berton, co-founder and CMO of Rheos. “The Sea Turtle Care Center does critical work that we have always been proud to support. We hope this collaboration will further raise awareness and funding for their mission.”
All seven species of sea turtles are listed as threatened or endangered. This is a reflection of the growing issues surrounding coastal development and ocean conservation. To help ensure that sea turtles have a future in our oceans, the South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Care Center aids sick and injured sea turtles in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
“The reality of sea turtles’ endangerment cannot be ignored and we are constantly looking for ways to educate the public about this issue,” said Stephanie Gabosch, Strategic Partnerships Officer of the Aquarium. “Partnering with Rheos, a company committed to sustainability and supporting our efforts, is very exciting. We can’t wait for people to check out these unique shades.”
The official launch of the new sunglasses took place at the South Carolina Aquarium’s annual Turtle Trek 5K on Oct. 9. They are available online at www.rheosgear.com/savetheturtles.
