It’s time to make every weekend feel like summer vacation. Keep vibing with us all year long with our latest Spotify playlist: Summer Soulshine, brought to you by the king of summer jams Colin McCabe. It’s the soundtrack to create your next favorite memories.
While we trust you to put our playlist to good use, here are some quick tips to really get the party started.
Alexa, play “Long Way Home by Durand Jones & The Indications.”
Sweet and soulful, the band formed in 2016 but brings sounds straight from the 70s to your stereo. So it only makes sense to pair this classic sound with a classic drink (with a twist).
Not-Your-Momma’s-Michelada
- Tajin
- Lime wedges
- 2 oz. fresh lime juice
- 2 tsp. Hot sauce
- 2 splashes of the secret ingredient
- 12 oz of Modelo
- Optional: clamato or tomato juice
Rim your glass with Tajin. Then, mix your lime juice, hot sauce and a bit of worcestershire sauce (that’s the secret ingredient, trust us). Add a fourth of clamato or tomato juice if you so choose and fill the rest with some cold modelo. Add your lime slice to the side and enjoy!
Who in your family or friend group can keep up the groove? Start up a dance competition to see who can out-move the other. Mr. Boogie Man is a 2010 dance song that mixes disco and pop rock. Whether you’re trying out your new TikTok dance routine or practicing some classics like the Hustle, this jam is versatile enough to work with anyone’s dance moves.
On The Hunt by Lynyrd Skynyrd is the song made to bring out your competitive streak. So if you’re ready to get rowdy, bring out the cornhole boards.
Traditionally, there are 5 rounds of cornhole before a winner is declared. You get 3 points if you sink your cornhole, and 1 point for a bag on the board. Some teams also give or subtract points if you can knock an opponent’s bag off the board. But if you’re looking to take your game to the next level, then it’s time to add some fun rules. Do things like adding more points if someone throws from a distance or launches a shot by kicking instead of throwing. Dedicate rounds to a specific move like have everyone toss left handed for round one and end the game by everyone shooting backwards. There’s lots of ways you can make cornhole a more extreme, competitive game.
Just turn up the tunes while you play.
When Taking Water by Billy Strings turns on, it’s time to sit down, grab a drink and a small bite to eat. Pair this banjo ballad with some beer cheese, kick up your feet and enjoy the summer breeze.
Mind-Blowing Beer Cheese
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 3 tablespoons of flour
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 cup of beer (lager, pale ale or beer of your choice)
- 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
- Dijon mustard
- Garlic powder
- Smoked paprika (swap for cayenne if you’re feeling extra spicy)
- Salt
- 2 cups of cheese
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large pot, add flour and whisk together until it’s a paste (about 1 minute). Then slowly add the milk and whisk until smooth. Add in as much dijon mustard, garlic powder, paprika and salt as you wish, it just adds to the flavor. If you’d rather keep things simple, add a ½ teaspoon of those flavorful ingredients. Last, whisk in as much shredded cheese as you can handle (typically 2 cups) and serve once everything is melted!
Now you’re ready to make some memories.
